Sermon Notes
My husband had to preach his first sermon for seminary. He loves preaching, but he isn't used to be grading on it. Okay, he isn't used to formally being graded on it :)
He chose the 2 Kings passage in which Elisha floats the ax head. I've heard that story, read that passage before, but I've always thought--big deal. It seems like a trivial miracle. Well, helping my husband with his outline & proofreading the manuscript, I was challenged to think otherwise.
As you look at what Elisha has been doing & what God has been doing in 2 Kings, it seems like a lot of little things. With so much going on in Israel & Judea, God is providing for widows, one couple, and a remnant of prophets. But, God was taking care of His people and providing for those who are faithful to Him. I was challenged to realize that what God does for me and my family. Who are we in the big scheme of things? But God provided for us in tremendous ways. Our house sold when houses weren't selling very well. We were given a love gift & help moving to PA. We have an apartment & we have jobs! It may seem like "trivial" things, but I know God is providing for me.
This was especially encouraging to be reminded His provision this week. My husband found out that at UPS, he has to go through a time of low seniority. That means if there isn't enough work, he will be called and told not to come in. He would like all the work he can get, and with the way my work fluctuates so much, this made me a little nervous. But, I was reminded that the Lord has provided for us in the past and I will not worry about how He will provide in the future.
I hope you can be encouraged with this as I was this week.
